FAQs:

Student Visas for Studying in Spain

If you are a non-European Union citizen planning to study in Spain, you will generally need a student visa. The visa type depends on the duration of your course:

  • Studying in Spain for up to 90 days: You need a short-term student visa. This visa allows you to stay for the course duration but does not allow you to work or apply for a Foreigner Identity Card (TIE).

  • Studying in Spain for between 90 and 180 days: You will need a Student Visa Type C. With this visa, you cannot apply for a Foreigner Identity Card (TIE) and are not allowed to work legally in Spain.

  • Studying in Spain for more than 180 days: You will need a Student Visa Type D. Additionally, after arrival, you must apply for a Foreigner Identity Card (TIE) within 30 calendar days. This card grants legal residence and may allow certain rights during your stay.

Visa Application Process

  • Applications must be submitted at the Spanish consulate or embassy in your home country, typically between 30 and 90 days before your course begins.

  • Required documents usually include:

    • An official acceptance letter from your school

    • Proof of financial means to support yourself during your stay

    • Valid health insurance

    • Proof of accommodation

    • Valid passport and completed application forms

  • Some documents might need to be translated into Spanish and legalized or apostilled.

Important Notes

  • Visa processing times vary, so apply early to avoid delays.

  • For long-term visas (over 180 days), registering for your Foreigner Identity Card (TIE) within 30 days of arrival is mandatory

  • Please note that visa policies and procedures can vary depending on the applicant’s country. We strongly recommend checking with the Spanish embassy or consulate in your home country for the most current and specific information.

Ailespañol Visa Policy:
If your visa application is denied, you will receive a refund of the amount paid minus a €200 processing fee. To request the refund, you must provide the official rejection letter from the consulate, which should include your personal details and the type of visa applied for.

Aprender Ya Visa Denial policy:

If you purchased the premium service and your visa is denied, an administrative fee of €70 will apply. The remaining amount will be refunded once the consulate’s rejection letter is submitted.

  • Our partner school  includes three cultural activities weekly, providing opportunities to explore Barcelona, practice Spanish, and immerse in local culture. A welcome tapas event is included on the first day.

How long does it take to complete a level?
Students enrolled in the Intensive or Long-Term Course usually move up one level—such as A1 or A2—within 10 to 12 weeks. Progress can vary depending on the student’s background, study habits, and exposure to the language. Regular review, completing assignments, and practicing Spanish both inside and outside the classroom—through conversations, music, films, and reading—can significantly enhance learning speed and fluency.

As your agency, we offer the AIL Barcelona DELE Preparation Course to help you succeed in the official DELE exam. This course focuses on exam strategies, practical language skills, and personalized support, with classes held two afternoons per week to fit your schedule.

DELE certificates are official Spanish proficiency diplomas issued by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of Spain’s Ministry of Education.

Our course includes all necessary materials, a level assessment to place you correctly, and guidance for registering for the exam. Classes are available Monday to Friday, mornings or afternoons, depending on your level and availability.

With this course, you’ll build confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing — all essential for passing the DELE and advancing your Spanish skills.
